How to tell the Difference Between an Airsoft Rifle & a Real Gun
How to tell the difference between an Airsoft rifle and a real gun

Paintball USA Palmdale now offers Airsoft games inn addition to Paintball skirmishes. We have been doing business in and around L.A. and Ventura Counties for over twenty-five years. The Airsoft guns that we have for rentals are AEG Fuze-L High Velocity by HK. They are a sturdy gun that resembles an authentic rifle. https://www.paintballusa.org/
High-end Airsoft guns look realistically like regular firearms. These are made of metal so they feel like a regular gun as well. There are a few indicators of how to fully identify an Airsoft rifle. If you are a self-equipped player, always transport your Airsoft gun in a carrying case. If you have it lying on the seat in your car and you should get pulled over by law enforcement, this could be a problem, because of the similarity of a real rifle.
Notice the orange tip on the end of the barrel. Federal law requirements insist on companies to install a bright orange tip to distinguish the Airsoft gun from a regular rifle. There have been instances where Airsoft gun owners have painted over the tip or removed to look like a real gun. Criminals sometimes add orange tips to their rifles to make their guns look like Airsoft guns.
Airsoft guns have a specifically sized 6mm inner barrel made of a smooth metal brass or steel. BB’s or plastic pellets are all made with a 6mm diameter to be shot from an Airsoft barrel. Real guns have a larger 9mm grooved bore for live ammo.
Magazines that hold BB’s have a 6mm channel to fill with plastic pellets. At the end of the magazine is a spring mechanism that you manually roll to fill with BB’s. Magazines on real guns are heavy metal with a steel follower to push heavy bullets into the barrel. Some magazines have a small window so you can see if it is filled with real bullets or plastic BB’s.
In short, the main visible differences between Airsoft gun and a real firearm are;
- Bright orange tip on the end of the barrel.
- Barrel size is much smaller.
- Airsoft magazines are lighter in weight with a smaller fill channel.
The rental rifles that are used at Paintball USA, specifically for kid’s Airsoft Birthday Parties are sturdy, yet light enough for our younger players to easily carry during a skirmish. The magazines are pretty easy to load without spilling BB’s on the ground. https://www.paintballusa.org/gallery
Airsoft pellets do not hurt as much as Paintballs. Whether you are playing with standard sized Paintballs or the much smaller low impact ones, they can cause bruises and welts when you aren’t dressed properly.
Our electric AEG Airsoft rental guns sound lighter when shooting and the BB’s do not have the same thump as a Paintball when hitting your target. Real guns always sound deafening when firing. The gun powder in the bullets causes an explosive sound.
When pulling the trigger on an Airsoft rifle, the electric AEG models are easy to engage. Triggers on a real gun activate a mechanical metal hammer that drops creating a striker release, more tension, and much more effort in shooting.
We invite you to plan your next Airsoft Birthday Party or outing at Paintball USA Palmdale. Give us a call any day of the week (661) 255-5332. We are available to take your call between the hours of 9am-5pm. https://www.paintballusa.org/pricing
