Low Impact Paintball & What to Know

Most Paintball venues refer to using .50 caliber Paintballs and markers as “Paintball Soft”.  That term isn’t exactly accurate because the smaller Paintballs aren’t soft and they have the same filling as the standard .68 caliber Paintball.

At Paintball USA Palmdale, I am honest and sincere to our customers as possible. No one likes insincerity or being dishonest, especially when parents are trying to gather information for their kid’s Paintball Birthday Party. Most parents that I speak to haven’t played Paintball ever, nor have their kids. https://www.paintballusa.org/

Being straight forward to people is a sign of respect.  It is so important that parents are told what to have the party guests wear, how our fields are set up, and that our referees enjoy showing the kids how to operate the rental guns, explain the safety rules, and strategies.

The referees at Paintball USA are all very nice and enjoy their working environment. We get many families that bring out a picnic, barbeque, drinks, and cake if celebrating a birthday. Families have parents or very young children that do not participate in the games, which is okay because they can hang out in our tented picnic facilities and enjoy the great atmosphere of fun. https://www.paintballusa.org/gallery

Here’s why the .50 caliber Paintballs are considered low impact. They are 30% smaller than standard .68 caliber Paintballs, so there is less surface area creating a slower velocity when shot from the gun. The shell that covers the paint fill is thinner which lets them pop easier when hitting their target.

The .50 caliber Paintball marker is lighter in weight because the barrel is almost half the diameter of the standard .68 caliber barrel.  In order to make the .50 caliber gun much lighter in weight and easier for kids to use, we attach the smaller HPA compressed air tanks to the markers. The standard HPA air tanks are much larger in size and hold a lot more air. They are great for tournament players.

In short, low impact Paintballs are;

  • 30% smaller than standard Paintballs.
  • Thinner shell allowing them to break easier when hit.
  • Smaller diameter than standard size, so less impact.
  • .50 caliber guns have smaller barrel diameter.
  • Low impact guns have half sized compressed air tanks resulting in lighter weight.
